It's the first time I did something like that. I had to think much about how to make everything work like I want and find creative ways for solving problems. But... it was lot of fun! ;)

What to do if the cardboard that you wanted to use for a cover have a lot of holes and you can't cut them because then the size of the cardboard will be too small?

Answer: You have to change disadvantage into advantage!

Some news

I haven't updated anything a month now, but it's not because I have nothing to show or to say ;) So, I'll tell you couple news.

One of the good news is that I'm working on illustrations for the children book with fairytales. It's very enjoyable work! Paintings will be done traditionally with watercolours. And I can't wait to see the finished book. There also will be illustrations of other artists, so it must turn out very interesting.

I would love to show you my new works, but I have to find time to scan them or make photos of them. Hopefully I'll do it soon. But I can show you one of the new drawings, what I did for the estonian music band Zetod (http://www.zetod.ee/).

It's their new member - Matis :)

Bad things also happens sometimes with me. Recently my bag was stolen... there was mobile phone, documents, keys, photo camera and other things. Now when I reported about this accident to police I can just hope that they will find the thief.

Well, I'm going back to work now ^^

I want to make this painting traditionally with acrylics on cardboard or canvas, so this digital painting meant to be just a sketch (color test), but I like how it looks and I thought to share it with you.

May be you noticed the difference in style between this and my previous works… well it’s the graffiti influence. I become very excited about street art and I would be happy to go out and try to give color to some gray ugly walls, but unfortunately I’m not able to do this right now… sooo walls are in safe for the moment and can relax, but I’ll return to this thought later ^^

My first animated short film is done! Ehey!!!
It is very short and pretty simple, but I hope you’ll enjoy it ^^
It’s called “Spring”.

With this short I’m participating in a little competition and I will be very thankful if you will support me and give me your votes (click “Like” button at the bottom of this page --> LINK). Thank you!!! ^^

I’ve asked before will I succeed or fail… well, let’s see:
-I’ve had no experience and no knowledge about animating in Adobe flash, but with this work I’ve learned a lot of new things and developed new skills.
-I’ve had time to finish my short until 20 march (I’ve started in the beginning of march) and I finished it week earlier.
-I did all work by myself.
So for me it’s definitely SUCCESS!
I thought before that it is an impossible mission for me…but I did it and I’m very happy :)
Also I’ve had so much fun working on this short!

For the end I want to say thank you to Youtube and all the awesome guys who share their knowledge with others and of cause to Adobe for their flash professional help guide and adobeTV!

Success or fail?

I've started a new crazy and mega fun project. It's something I've never done before and I have less than a month to finish it (for today it's left 18 days).
I'm very exited, cause if everything goes well you'll see something very interesting from me... yeah, there is a possibility of fail, but who cares ^^ Like Bobby Chiu said "true failure comes from not trying". So I'm going to do my best and we will see what will happen.

Oh, you whant to know what I'm doing? Ok, I'll tell you... *whisper* I'm doing a flash animated short film ^^
It will be very short and simple, but hopefully cute and funny.

I've never worked in flash before, but with the last two or three days I learned how to use it (understand the basics ^^)... I have a story, some kind of storyboard, background, two characters with details... so I hope I can start to animate them tomorow.
Oh, so much thing to do! I feel like I have to remove sleeping time from my schedule ^^

So, what it would be? Success or fail?
We will see it at the end of the month!

Red Riding Hood

I made two different works with Red Riding Hood:
The first is for the Childrensillustrator club, it's a watercolour illustration.

I like how this painting came out and after scanning I spent time correcting colours (like most of scanners my are also a big colour eater) to make it look like the original and when I was satisfied with the result I decided to see how this illustration looks on other computers, and guess what I saw... an overcontrasted painting with odd colours... I was shocked, but I think it looked bad not because I did something wrong, I'm afraid that the problem is in a bad calibration of monitors, wich many people have... so now I'm pretty curious about how you see my works ^^

My monitor is not 100% perfectly calibrated, but I've changed settings and I think he's pretty good.

If you are interested in your monitor calibrating ask Google for more information, he knows everything :)

I tried another painting program - PaintTool SAI and I really enjoyed working with it. It's very good for linework, there is special layer and tools for this...and a lot of other interesting things :) so, I will certainly continue to paint with SAI.

I’m always open for something new and interesting, so this time I tried myself in body art. I spent this weekend (25-26 September) on Motoshow and HTG Custom Show 2010 – the biggest auto show in Estonia, doing body and face paintings. It was great experience for me!

I was painting mainly on children, so I had to paint very quickly, cause they can’t sit still for long time… It was quite intense work, but fun :))

When it was possible, I let children choose the colors and details for their paintings, so they were able to participate in creating process.

It was so nice to see, that all these little paintings I did, made people little bit happier :))

I'm working on my projects, new paintings and couple comissions, also have an interesting ideas in my head for the future.

I'm sketching every day, so on my table and book shelves... hmm... everywhere around me are piles of paper with sketches and drawings. I desided to show you some of them.

The first sketch is for the challenge on Sketchoholic.com - illustrate the following 'Save a Whale. Eat a Mermaid'. I think it's cool challenge and it's fun to do it... hope I'll find enough time to finish illustration in time.

Here is another mermaid sketch. I can't say that I'm a big fan of mermaids, but I like to draw them.

Next is life drawing. I look on somebody short time and then try to sketch him. This is not easy for me... people move all the time, goes away and so on... at the begining I thought that this is impossible mission, but whit the practice sketches become better and I really hope to improve this skill much more.

I've read somewhere that life is like zebra - white stripe, black stripe, white stripe, black stripe...ass (yeah, shit happens, sometimes)... and again white stripe, black stripe, white stripe...

I drew this for myself... like a reminder that white stripes will come, no matter what. And when shit happens, it means only that something good will happen soon :)

For some months I was lucky to work with very talanted and great estonian band - Zetod, on theirs new album "Lätsi sanna". I made for them a lot of different paintings and now when the album is released I'll show you some of them:

I took photos of the album (sorry for the quality), where you can see front, back cover and inside of album, but there is much more cool stuff inside that you can't see on photo and, of course, great music :) So, if you're interested, just buy the CD and discover all the other things by yourself :)

As you can see I get autographs too ^___^

And one more photo - poster. It's funny feeling inside, when you see your own artworks all around :)

All this makes me think about my past life... It's hard to believe how much it is changed with the one year only... incredible! I hope the changes will continue:)

Here is the little present for my mothers birthday :)

This painting is pretty different from everything I have done before. It's not very usual for me to draw so many flowers and make paintings in that kind of stile, but I'm happy with the result!

And my mum was happy to get this painting for birthday, so I'm even happier :)

My year started with victories!

I won in a little Christmas/New Year card competition with my cocker painting and I will get a very nice and beautiful price – Christmas tree decoration with original painting on it :) I’ll take a photo and show you when I get it :)

Yesterday was amazing day! At the national dog show in Tartu my dog - Bonny was the Best of Breed and second in the Group competition! One more trophy will stand on my bookshelf :) I know, this news isn’t about art, but I’m so happy and proud of my dog and our teamwork with her! I can’t just find words to describe you how good she is in the rings, she has a real winners temperament! She is my little treasure and muse :)

At the moment I don’t have any good photos from the show, but if I’ll find something from other people I’ll post it here. But I have one funny picture from yesterday…Me and Bonny slept before the ring in yoga pose and our friend took a picture of us ^__^

So, I am very happy with the beginning of this year, I think it will be a great year! I have many ideas, plans and things to do… I will work hard and achieve my goals :)

Yes, I am very optimistic ^__^

This picture I made for my mum. She wanted Christmas/New Year illustration with cocker spaniel...why cocker? Just because we are a proud owners of two wonderful american cocker spaniels (the best dogs in the world :) ) I drew here a little tiger too - the symbol of the next year.

This is a speed paint I made for Chiustreem topic "Funny".

3 steps of my work + Derwent pencils

I decided to show you 3 steps of work on my "Home for little elves" drawing. I think it might be pretty interesting.

I use for my drawings Derwent Inktense pencils. It is very interesting to work with them. They have a lot of possibilities (you can use them even for silk paintings).

So, shortly about how I work:

My 1. step is cleaning the sketch.

2. step - colouring. This is a very important step. I need to choose colours very carefully, because they change their tones later. For combining colours I am using colour chart what I made for myself.

Sometimes you can finish your work on this step, if you don’t want to use water and you like how your drawing looks (for example my “Pea fairy” ).

3. step - applying water and adding details. As you can see the tones of colours have changed after applying water.

So, this is it :)

Illustration for poem by Aleksey Tolstoy (Russian poet, novelist and dramatist). This poem is about child and devious dragonflies. Dragonflies said that they love him, that they will teach him how to fly, but when child ran to them he was dragged into pond.

Случайно наткнулась на него и прочитав его так точно и не разобралась – стрекозы хорошие или плохие? Поискала ответ и вот что нашла: «Первоначальная редакция стихотворения была вдвое больше: после описания весёлого хоровода стрекоз рассказывалось о том, как ребёнок побежал на их зов и был затянут в омут.» (источник Викитека ). Значит не зря меня терзали смутные сомнения по поводу доброжелательности стрекоз :)
